Each week from March to August, a new trivia question will be released. Submit your answer via this  form, win prizes (see terms and conditions) and find out if you make the monthly leaderboard in On Campus.

ANU 80th Birthday Trivia — Terms & Conditions

In celebration of The Australian National University’s 80th anniversary this year, the Alumni & Community Engagement team and the Office of the Interim Vice Chancellor (OIVC) have partnered to bring you weekly ANU trivia in On Campus. Test your knowledge of ANU facts and compete for trivia glory and fun prizes every week, until August 2026.

To enter, answer all the trivia questions in that week’s quiz correctly and submit the completed form with your contact details. Be quick, the fastest correct complete response from a valid entrant wins the prize each week!

Name  ANU 80th Birthday Trivia Competition (Trivia)

Eligible Entrants

Entry is open only to current ANU staff and students who are aged 18 years or over.

Former ANU staff and graduates are not eligible to enter the competition at any time during the Competition Period.

Competition Period

The competition will be conducted via the University’s weekly newsletter On Campus between March and August 2026. Each weekly trivia question will remain open between the date of publication until the following Monday at 11:59pm AEST. Weekly entries received outside this period will not be accepted.

The Competition Period will close on 6 August 2026.

Prize 

Twenty (20) weekly prizes will be awarded to entrants who answer the trivia question correctly first. Each weekly prize consists of one (1) free voucher, from an ANU cafe, valued at AUD $5.00.

Five (5) prizes will be awarded in August by random draw from all entries received during the Competition Period. Each prize consists of one (1) gift pack prepared by the ANU OIVC, valued at approximately AUD $60. Limit of one (1) prize per person.

Prizes are not transferable, exchangeable or redeemable for cash. Gift pack contents are determined by the ANU OIVC and/or its representatives.

Entry Process

To receive one (1) valid entry into the Competition, an Eligible Entrant must, during the Competition Period:

1) Access the Trivia form or page via the link provided in On Campus; and

2) Submit the completed form with their answer(s) and contact details before 11.59pm AEST of the following Monday. The weekly prize winner will be the person who submitted the correct answer first. A maximum of one (1) entry per week is permitted per person. Multiple entries may be deemed invalid.

Competition 

The prize winner(s) each week will be selected from the first complete submitted quiz form containing all correct answers from all valid entries received during that week of the Competition Period.

The judges of the Competition are representatives of ANU from the Office of the Interim Vice Chancellor and all decisions made are final.

The selection of winners will take place at premises nominated by ANU by 4:30pm AEST every Friday following a new Trivia form being released in On Campus during the Competition Period.

Winner notification and claiming

Prize winners will be notified (typically via email) using the contact details provided at the time of entry within five (5) business days of the draw.

If a winner does not respond within five (5) business days of ANU making reasonable attempts to contact them, the prize will be deemed unclaimed and may be forfeited.

Prize delivery

 Prizes will be available for collection from the ANU Corporate Communications office located in the Chancelry and confirmed with the winner using the details provided. ANU is not responsible for delays, loss or damage in transit.

Prizes are not transferable and cannot be redeemed for cash.

 

1) The promoter of the Competition is The Australian National University (ABN 52 234 063 906) (ANU) of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory 2600, Australia. Information on how to enter this competition and prize details published by ANU form part of these terms and conditions of entry (Terms).

2) All entrants agree to the Terms upon submitting their entry. These Terms are governed by the laws of the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. If any of these Terms are or become invalid, at the option of ANU, the relevant part is severed and doesn’t affect the validity of the remaining parts.

3) Entries must be received during the Competition Period. Entries will be deemed to be accepted at the time of receipt and not at the time of transmission. Incomplete, inaudible or incomprehensible entries will be deemed invalid. No responsibility will be taken by ANU for lost, late or misdirected entries.

4) ANU reserves the right to:

a. cancel, terminate, delay, modify or suspend the Competition at any time;

b. withdraw the invitation to participate from any person, including where that person incorrectly receives an invitational email; and

c. amend or vary these Terms during the Competition Period.

5) The winner(s) will be chosen as outlined in the above details.

6) Prizes must be taken as offered and are not redeemable for cash or an alternative prize. Prizes are not transferable. If, however, substitution of a/the prize must occur, the winner must agree in writing, and the prize must be of the same, or greater, value than the original.

7) ANU reserves the right to reasonably disqualify any entry or entrants at its discretion at any time.

8) Decisions made by ANU on all aspects relating to this competition are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

9) ANU may request further information from the prize winner to confirm the prize winner’s entry is eligible and complies with these Terms. This may include, for example, requesting proof of identity.

10) By entering, entrants:

a. confirm that any content they submit is original and does not infringe the intellectual property rights or any other rights of third parties;

b. grant ANU a perpetual, royalty-free, irrevocable, worldwide, non-exclusive licence (with the right to sub-licence) to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, communicate with the public and otherwise exploit the submission content in any media for any purpose (including to advertise or promote any ANU products or services); and

c. agree to sign any further documentation required by ANU to give effect to this clause.

11) It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure they are readily contactable through the information provided at the time of entry.

12) If a winner was readily contactable and does not respond to claim the prize within 5 business days of ANU making reasonable attempts to contact the winner, the winner forfeits the prize. If this occurs, ANU may conduct a re-judge and offer the prize to other entrants until a valid winner has been contacted. The newly drawn winner will be contacted using the contact details provided at the time of entry.

13) Unless otherwise agreed, prizes can be collected from the ANU Corporate Communications office located in the Chancelry building.

14) The ANU accepts no responsibility and shall not be held legally liable or responsible for any accident, loss, injury or damage to any individual or property whether direct or

indirect, whether in contract, tort, negligence or otherwise arising out of or in connection with the competition or the prize, either during or after the competition.

15) Without limiting clause 14, ANU makes no representations or warranties as to the quality, suitability or merchantability of any goods or services offered as prizes. To the extent permitted by law, ANU is not liable for any loss suffered to person or property by reason of any act or omission, deliberate or negligent, by ANU or its employees or agents, in connection with the arrangement for the supply of goods and services by any person to the prize winner, and where applicable, to any persons accompanying the prize winner. This clause does not affect any rights a consumer may have which are unable to be excluded under Australian law. To the fullest extent permitted by law, any liability of ANU or its employees or agents for breach of any such rights is limited to the payment of the costs of having the prize supplied again.

16) Entrants' personal information may be collected by ANU and may be disclosed to ANU contractors and agents (including without limitation marketing and promotional agencies, information technology providers and database service providers) to conduct, administer and publicise this competition and for future marketing and promotional purposes and used in accordance with the ANU Advancement Privacy Statement. If an entrant does not provide the personal information requested by ANU, or it is inaccurate or incomplete, ANU may determine that the entrant is ineligible to win a prize.
